The Camargue is the delta of the Rhone which rises in the Alps and flows into the Mediterranean. The shed snake skin is from an Aesculapius snake - the largest European non venomous snake, which I found in a ditch in the Camargue. The background is made by dipping the paper into a large tray of liquid Rhone mud and pulling it upwards. The resulting pattern of rivulets mirrors the river delta and also the skin of the snake, which itself moves like flowing water.
